    Buttermilk Biscuits

The very first job I had was making biscuits for Hardees. The commercials were showing some old grandma making them at 4 am. Yes, they were made at 4 am but not by someones grandma, just me. I was fresh out of high school and not sure what to do with my life. Those two years I worked at Hardees I made many a biscuit. I remember one very busy Saturday morning they sold about 1500 biscuits. By hand, they were all rolled, cut out and baked by me.

I can honestly say that in the beginning, I was not very good at it. I burned some, I burned myself and some looked awful. But with time I got better and better at it.

I decided to make biscuits for you today and why you ask? Because I am so much better at it now than I was then. Even though it has been years since I made them, it is kind of like riding a bike, you always know how to do it.

    Buttermilk Biscuits

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 500 degrees.

Put flour and shortening in a large bowl. Cut shortening into flour using a pastry blender or two knives until it looks like wet sand. Add milk and blend with a fork until it just comes together.

Put the dough on a lightly floured surface and kneed gently a couple of times. Roll dough into 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into biscuits and put on a baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.

    Peace be with you,

    Veronica
