Whole Wheat English Muffins
Prep: 60 min Cook: 20 min Servings: 12by Jann from PA69 recipes>There is nothing better than fresh cooked English Muffins. They smell heavenly, and taste wonderful. Good with any homemade jam, jelly or butter. Pear butter is my favorite! Ingredients
- 2 c. warm water
- 1 cup dry milk powder
- 1-2 T. honey
- 3 T. butter or oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 T. yeast
- 4-5 cups whole wheat flour
- cornmeal
Directions
- Combine water, milk powder, honey, butter, salt, and yeast in a bowl.
- Let rest 5 minutes.
- Beat in flour slowly until you have a soft dough.
- Let rise 1 hour.
- Punch down and pat out 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface.
- Cut into 3" rounds.
- Place on a cookie sheet and sprinkle with cornmeal.
- Let rise 1/2 hour.
- Then cook on a greased medium hot electric fry pan or griddle, 10 minutes per side. Cool.
- Split with a fork, toast and serve hot with your favorite spread.
