  • Whole Wheat Biscuits

    Ingredients

    • 2 c. whole wheat flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 3 teaspoon baking pwdr
    • 1/4 c. oil or possibly butter
    • 3/4 c. water (lowfat milk)

    Directions

    1. Mix together whole wheat flour, salt and baking pwdr. Cut in oil or possibly butter. Stir in water (or possibly lowfat milk) with least amount of handling. Form into ball in center of bowl. Let sit 2 min. Roll dough out onto floured board. Knead 15 times. Use more flour if necessary. Dough will become elastic and hold together well. Press out 3/4" thick. Cut into biscuits. Place 1" apart on warm sheet. Bake 450 degrees, warm oven, 12 to 15 min.
    2. HINTS: For Brown Crust: brush with lowfat milk before baking. For Tender Crust: brush with melted butter first.
    3. VARIATIONS: Sprinkle before baking with cinnamon sugar or possibly Parmesan cheese. Or possibly fold into the dough a few Tbsp. grated drying cheese from your refrigerator or possibly cooked, crumbled bacon, or possibly minced parsley, basil or possibly dill.
    4. For Shortcake, add in 1 Tbsp. sugar to the dough flatten to 1/4" thick and process as above.
