    Ingredients

    • 1 pound strawberries, washed and sliced
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar for strawberries
    • 1 pint whipping cream
    • 2 teaspoons sugar for whipping cream
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla for whipping cream

    Directions

Twinkies are back. Now what are you going to do? I am going to turn mine into strawberry shortcake. Yes, these sponge cake treats are back. They are in stores. I heard on the news they were coming back, and guess what? Sunday when I was in the grocery store their they stood.

I never thought I would miss the treat that I loved when I was a kid. I remember calling my Mom to ask her to buy some Twinkies when Hostess went out of business. She did, and I had Hostess treats for awhile. Then those snack cakes were gone too.

I have some friends coming over tonight, and this is what I am serving for dinner. Organic strawberries, homemade whipped cream, piled over Twinkies.

Now that they are back what are you going to do with your Twinkies?

    Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry shortcake shouldn't be boring, try using Twinkies instead of the sponge cakes you find in the grocery store.

    Ingredients

    8 Twinkies

    Instructions

Place cut strawberries into a bowl and sprinkle sugar over the strawberries. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let sugar marinate over the strawberries for a couple of hours before using. Prepare whipped cream by combining heavy whipping cream, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in a bowl and beat with a hand mixer until the whipped cream is fluffy.

Assemble shortcakes by placing one or two Twinkies on a plate. Spoon strawberries over the Twinkies and top with whipped cream.
