Fell in love with this when I first tried it about 25 years ago. Nicknamed it 'World Class jello' since it has such a premium taste and quality to it.

    Ingredients

    • CRUST
    • 2 cups crushed pretzels
    • 3/4 cup butter, melted
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • MIDDLE LAYER
    • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 8-ounce container frozen whipped topping, thawed
    • TOP LAYER
    • 1 6-ounce package strawberry gelatin
    • 2 cups boiling water
    • 20 ounces frozen sliced strawberries, unsweetened (do not thaw)

    Directions

    1. CRUST
    2. Preheat oven to 400 degree F.
    3. Mix pretzels, butter and 1/4 cup sugar together well. Place in bottom of a 9“x13" baking dish, pressing well with back of large spoon or bottom of glass to form a crust. Bake 6 minutes. Remove from oven and cool.
    4. MIDDLE LAYER
    5. In a medium size bowl beat cream cheese and 1 cup sugar well. Fold in whipped topping. Spread this over the cooled pretzel crust and place in refrigerator to chill.
    6. TOP LAYER
    7. Dissolve gelatin in large bowl with boiling water, stirring thoroughly. Add frozen strawberries, stirring. Gelatin should begin to thicken; if it doesn’t, place bowl in refrigerator and check and stir every few minutes until it begins to thicken, but is not set.
    8. Pour over middle cream cheese layer and smooth evenly. Cover and chill several hours until firmly set.

I'm not sure about "World Class" but what I am sure, is that most everyone likes this recipe. It is also an easy one to reduce sugar, fat and calories by subbing non nutritive sweeteners and lower fat or non-fat cream cheese and topping. But hey, it's Christmas!

There is another Jello salad made with a can of cherry pie filling, lemon jello, marshmallows.
I hope somebody has that recipe too as I forgot the name of it.
