  • Katie's Apple Pie

    Ingredients

    • 1 x unbaked 9" pie shell filling
    • 1/2 c. sugar
    • 2 Tbsp. flour
    • 1 pch salt
    • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp allspice
    • 5 x apples peeled & sliced
    • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    • 2 Tbsp. butter melted you can use more butter if you prefer topping
    • 1/2 c. flour
    • 1/2 c. light brown sugar
    • 5 Tbsp. butter

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    2. Combine dry ingredients, then stir into apples. Add in lemon juice & melted butter & stir well. Turn apples into unbaked pie shell. Cover w/topping
    3. Topping: Mix together till crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 min. Then reduce oven heat to 350 degrees & bake for 40-45 min longer or possibly till top is browned.
    4. Description: "Katie Gilbert has won more than six hundred prizes in baking & canning since 1941 when she began to enter cooking contests. Katie's Apple Pie won Grand Champion at the Dixie Classic Fair."
    5. NOTES : Mrs. Gilbert prefers Stayman apples
