Is it Safe to Eat Cookie Dough

Normal cookie dough that you bake into cookies is not safe to eat. Between the raw eggs and the flour there is risk of contamination and not something you should consume raw.

How to Make Edible Cookie Dough

The good news is you can make make these cookie dough bites that taste just like your traditional dough, that is 100% safe to eat!

To make the truffles safe to eat we have to toast the flour first. This kills any bacteria so you can add it to the dough and eat it. Spread the flour evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool completely before adding to the recipe.

The recipe starts very similar to traditional cookies. Mix together butter and brown sugar until light and creamy. If you have an electric mixer it comes together really quickly in this.

Next mix in your vanilla until it is well blended.

Slowly mix in the toasted flour. The mixture will be very dry and crumbly, that is totally normal!

Pour in the condensed milk and stir until it comes together.

Mix in your chocolate chips and let the dough set in the fridge for about an hour. You need it to set up and harden just a little so you can roll into balls.

Use a cookie scoop to scoop out the dough and roll into balls.

One at a time place the cookie dough bites into the melted chocolate and place on a lined baking sheet to harden. Let the truffles set up completely and store in an air tight container in the fridge.

Can you Freeze Cookie Dough Truffles

Yes, you absolutely can. Place them in an air tight container in the freezer for 2-3 months. Otherwise they are good in the fridge a couple weeks.

Tips for Making Cookie Dough Truffles

Chocolate flavored almond bark or the Ghiradelli candy making bars melt the best and work really well for dipping candies.

If you want to add sprinkles or other decorations you will want to do that very quickly. The balls set up in just a couple minutes.

You can skip dipping them all together and just have balls of cookie dough if you want. Or just drizzle a little chocolate over each bite. It really is up to you!

Don’t skip the step to toast the flour first, then you can be 100% confident when you serve these to your friends.
