Starting your day off with a good breakfast is critical to a clean eating plan. You can’t let your body reside in starvation mode even for a minute if you are trying to reach your health goals. Your body needs the proper fuel to function correctly or you will be fighting a losing battle. And there are few things worse than having to battle with your own body.

I know. I struggle with myself daily. And just like you, I’m often confused about what it is I should be doing. There is so much misinformation out there, not to mention studies done by supposedly reputable people that constantly contradict each other. So what are we, the confused and lost of the nutrition world supposed to do?

Keep it simple. Go back to the basics. Understand that your body was meant to run on healthy, whole-ingredient foods and meals in order to run properly.

Now, admittedly, those foods and meals will look different for each person. Everyone’s body has different needs that must be accommodated. For example, I can no longer tolerate dairy, while others may thrive on it. I need a lower carb diet to feel good, while others may do far better with a higher carb, vegan or even raw eating plan. And the truth is, if you’ve been paying any attention at all to your body, you probably know at least some of the things it needs. So go with that! But never, never, never, let yourself skip breakfast. Many say it’s the most important meal of the day, and I tend to agree.

You have to get that metabolism fired up first thing in the morning. You can’t expect a wood burning stove to keep you warm if you don’t put wood in it and light the fire. It’s the same thing with our metabolism. So please, eat breakfast!! And while you’re planning what to have for breakfast next week, try adding this warm cereal recipe from eMeals to the list. It’s a hearty and nutritious way to start your morning. Add a hard boiled egg and maybe even a veggie or two (not to the cereal, obviously) and you have a very balanced start to your day!
