    The Weekend Dish: 9/1/2013

Happy long weekend! If you live in the U.S., I hope you’re enjoying a long Labor Day weekend and not having to do much… labor. Are you picnic-ing this weekend? If so, did you have any fabulous eats? My Chief Culinary Consultant and I have been hunkered down at home on puppy duty, trying to get Duke housebroken and acclimated to life here. He’s been here for eight days and we’re currently (knock on wood) at three days of no accidents inside. Getting there! I’m sure you all are having much more exciting weekends What are you up to??

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

Zucchini-Corn Fritters – I am absolutely loving this zucchini spin on corn fritters; a perfect way to use up any end-of-summer zucchini in your garden.

DIY: Homemade Greek Yogurt – If you are a yogurt eater, you won’t believe how easy it is to make your own at home. I’m totally sold on this!

Thai Peanut Cabbage Slaw – I love picnic side dishes, and this became an instant favorite at my house. This coleslaw mix includes red bell peppers, peas, peanuts, green onions and a fabulous dressing.

    What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:

Better For You Cranberry Coleslaw (Foodie With Family)

I love coleslaw, and I love coleslaw even more when it has “stuff” in it; this light version with cranberries and sunflower seeds sounds fabulous.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Ice Cream (Love and Olive Oil)

It’s like chocolate peanut butter Rice Krispies treat ice cream. Heaven!

Chopped Brussels Sprout Salad with Chicken and Walnuts (Pinch of Yum)

Total disclosure here – I don’t really like Brussels sprouts. However, I’ve found that if they’re shredded and tossed together with some other tasty ingredients, I actually kind of like them. I want to give this a try!

Snickers Cake (Seeded at the Table)

A Snickers version of the “better than *ahem* anything” cake… need I say more?!

    Southern Shandy (Pretty Plain Janes)

This drink looks and sounds so refreshing; a perfect way to spend some cool September evenings out on the patio.

What was the best thing you ate this week??

    Have a delicious weekend!
