    The Ultimate Bread Pudding

    A good way to use up all the old bread around the house. It is also a great desseert and is very tasty.

    Ingredients

    • 5 lg. beaten eggs
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 tsp. vanilla
    • 1/2 cup raisins
    • 1 tsp. lemon juice
    • 1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
    • Dash of nutmeg
    • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    • 2 cups milk ( you can use 1 cup heavy cream; and 1 cup milk)
    • 5-6 cups of cubed bread ( allow to dry out overnight)
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup stick butter
    • 1 cup chopped nuts

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. In a separate bowl, mix eggs,sugar,vanilla,milk,raisins,juices,spices and nuts..
    3. Pour over bread;let set until bread bsorbs the liquid.
    4. Place in greased 13 x9 x2 pan.
    5. Crumble together stick butter and brown sugar and sprinkle on top
    6. Bake for about 45 minutes.
    7. Orange Butter Sauce
    8. Ingredients:
    9. 1 cup sugar
    10. 1/2 cup butter
    11. 1 tsp. vanilla
    12. 1 egg beaten
    13. 1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
    14. 1 tsp.lemon juice
    15. In a sauce pan, and over low heat, blend all the ingredients. Do not boil.
    16. Poour over bread pudding.
    17. Can be served hot or cold.
    18. Top with whipped cream

      This is not dry but moist and very tasty. The combination of lemon and orange is very pleasing.

        I realize you were referring to the kind of bread cubes you can use, but seriously, your recipe's name - Any Kind of Bread Pudding - no way! For heaven's sake, change the name of this to "Ultimate Bread Pudding"! I took this to a pot luck and there was nary a crumb left. It's very sweet, and reminds me - of all things - pecan pie! I do suggest you clarify the lemon in the Orange Butter Sauce, though. It says a teaspoon lemon CONCENTRATE yet the bread pudding ingredients above it specify a teaspoon of lemon JUICE. Not sure which to use in the sauce, I opted for a little lemon extract. Anyway this recipe made my age-old bread cubes magnifico!
