    Ingredients

    • 1 cup flour
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon, optional
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 3 cups peeled, pitted and sliced fresh peaches
    • Topping:
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 TBSP butter
    • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
    2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon, if desired.
    3. Stir in milk just until combined.
    4. Add peaches.
    5. Spread into a greased 8 x 8 inch square baking dish on a baking sheet to catch any spills.
    6. Topping:
    7. In a large saucepan, combine water, sugars, butter and nutmeg.
    8. Bring to a boil until sugars are dissolved.
    9. Pour over peach mixture
    10. Bake 40-50 minutes until filling is bubbly and a toothpick inserted in topping comes out clean.
    11. Serve warm.
