    Ingredients

    • 3/4 c. butter or possibly hard margarine softened
    • 3/4 c. granulated sugar
    • 1 lrg egg
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 2 c. all purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp cream of tartar
    • 1/4 tsp cardamom optional
    • 1/4 tsp salt

    Directions

    1. Cream butter and sugar in large bowl. Add in egg and vanilla. Beat. Mix remaining ingredients in separate bowl. Stir into batter. Roll out 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into rounds or possibly different shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet in 350F (175C) oven for about 10 min. Cold. Decorate.
    2. Makes 7 dozen cookies
    3. Variation: For plain sugar cookies, sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking.
    4. Variation: For decorated sugar cookies, sprinkle with colored sugar or possibly sprinkles before baking or possibly decorate baked cookies with icing.
    5. Diane Says: Here is one recipe I make at every holiday. The kids have fun making these.

    7. NOTES : Have fun with the kids cutting out different shapes. We make these for every holiday with cookies cutouts.
