Spicy Asian Snack MixJuly 6, 2018 by meggan 0 comments » Jump to Recipe ↓ Print Recipe ❒PinShareTweetI teamed up with the California Walnuts to bring you this Spicy Asian Snack Mix! I’ve been compensated for my time. All opinions are mine alone.Looking for a snack with a kick? A truly addictive party mix, the oriental flavors of Asia are combined to make a super crunchy, flavorful snack mix. Whether served at your next get together or just for one, you might want to double the recipe as you may find yourself eating it all night long! Why Walnuts? Many snack mixes contain ingredients that are devoid of nutritional value. Cereal, pretzels, crackers, and candy pieces, I’m looking at you!I included California Walnuts because they are a whole-food ingredient that contains omega-3 ALA (2.5 grams/ounce), protein (4 grams/ounce), fiber (2 grams/ounce), and magnesium (45 mg/ounce). It’s a highly nutritional ingredient and the main reason I make this snack mix for my kids. What is hoisin sauce?Basically, it’s like Asian BBQ sauce. Thick in texture, dark in color, and sweet & tangy in flavor, this sauce is made from fermented soybeans, vinegar, sugar, garlic, and those secret oriental spices. In Chinese cuisine, it is used as a glaze for meat, dipping sauce, or addition to stir-fries. MY LATEST RECIPES What are chow mein noodles?Mein, or mian in Chinese, refers to noodles made from wheat. Those crunchy, slightly sweet noodles are widely available in grocery stores and online, and are even available gluten-free!Where can I find these ingredients? All Asian ingredients can be found in the Global or International aisle of most grocery stores. Dried wasabi peas are usually available by the pound in most supermarkets, often in the bulk foods section.Don’t feel like lighting the stovetop?Use the microwave instead! In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter in the microwave on high in 30 second intervals until a few small bits remain. Stir to melt thoroughly, add the remaining sauce ingredients, and mix to combine. Toss with the remaining ingredients, bake, and enjoy! Can I make it ahead of time?Yes! This snack mix can be made up to 2 days ahead. If it just so happens to need a little re-crisping, reheat in a preheated 250 degree oven on a rimmed baking sheet for 10-15 minutes. Please follow California Walnuts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest!
