    Basic bread stuffing

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 loaves white bread, torn into bite sized pieces and allowed to get stale
    • 3 sticks butter
    • 3 very large onions, diced
    • 6 stalks celery, diced
    • 1 doz. eggs
    • 1 c. 2% milk
    • 4 T. Poultry seasoning
    • 2 T. Salt
    • 2 T. Pepper
    • 2 T. Celery seed

    Directions

    1. Melt butter in a large stock pot over medium heat. Sauté onions and celery in butter until very soft but not browned. Sprinkle all seasonings over bread and mix well. Crack eggs into a medium bowl and beat well with milk. Mix egg mixture with bread mixture. Pour the onion and celery mixture over the bread and mix very well. Return stuffing to the pot and cook gently over medium heat until the eggs are cooked and the stuffing is hot and totally mixed. Do not brown. Adjust the seasonings, the stuffing should be well seasoned because it will be slightly diluted by the turkey juices. Cool completely before stuffing into the turkey.
