  • Poopy Seeds Halwa | Gasalu / Gasa Gase Halwa | Karnataka Special Sweet

    Ingredients

    • Poopy Seeds/ Gasalu/ Gasa gase- 1 cup
    • Milk - 4 cups ( Used 2 % milk)
    • Sugar - 2 to 2 1/2 cups *
    • Ghee/ Clarified butter - 3 tsps

    Directions

    Poopy seeds Halwa is a traditional sweet from Karnataka.. Only recently I tried this halwa in my niece's place. Her mom in law made this amazing halwa which I instantly fell in love with. The best part about this halwa is, it's fairly a simple recipe which uses just four ingredients. Poppy seeds halwa has a texture of a badami burfi and has a taste similar to khoya/ kova.

    Poppy Seeds Halwa Recipe:

    Ingredients:

    Procedure:

    In a blender add the poopy seeds and make powder.

    Add the milk and sugar to the blender which already has the poppy seeds mixture in it.

    Grind it to a smooth paste.

    Heat a non stick pan and add the ground mixture.

    Cook the poppy seeds mixture in medium to low flame, till the milk evaporates and you get a halwa like consistency.

    Add the ghee and mix well. Cook for few more minutes.

    When the halwa leaves the sides of the pan switch off the flame.

    Serve the poppy seeds halwa at room temperature.

    Note:

    * If using fine sugar like the one we get in U.S use 2 1/2 cups of sugar, if not use 2 cups of sugar.
