  • Pies in Mason Jars !!

    Love Mason Jars ,and little pies served in Mason Jars are the best ,you can eat right out of the jar or turn it over and put it in a bowl and serve with your favorite Ice Cream either way I bet you cant eat just one ..Dont stop at pies let your imagination go wild ,try cupcakes or meatloaf or chicken pot pie .YUM YUM .ENJOY!!

    Ingredients

    • basic crust pastry
    • 2cpsflour
    • 2/3 cp very cold butter 1/4tsp salt
    • 4-5tbs ice water
    • Crumble Crust
    • 1/4cp brown sugar
    • 1/4 cp flour
    • 2tbs oats
    • 1/4 tsp cinn.
    • Fillings
    • 4Cps Fruit peeled diced and pitted if using fresh cherries
    • 1/2 cp sugar -check for sweetness
    • 3 tbs flour
    • 3 tbs butter
    • use any
    • citrus you like
    • flavorings --cinnamon ,almond extract ,vanilla ,lemon zest ...

    Directions

    1. For a crumble crust mix sugar ,flour and cinn.cut in butter untill it is crumbly ,put a few spoons on the bottom of the jar add your fruit mixture ,leaving room for some on the top layer with more of the crumbly mixture dot with butter and bake
    2. For Basic pastry dough
    3. put flower in a med bowl
    4. add salt
    5. cut in butter in small chunks cut into flour
    6. add ice water 1 tbls at a time as needed
    7. mix with fork
    8. roll into a ball
    9. pull of pieces line mason jars all the way up to the top
    10. add filling .roll out leftover dough take the top of the mason jar use as a cookie cutter and cut tops for you pies
    11. place top crust on and pierce with a fork gently
    12. or use the crumble mixture instead ,any way you do it will be fine
    13. Turn oven on to 375 degrees ,place pies in mason jars on a baking sheet for easy handling for about 35 minutes,remove and eat or cool and freeze.Use as needed.
