  • Lone Star Cafe's Pinto Beans

    Ingredients

    • 3 lb pinto beans
    • 1 med yellow onion peeled and minced
    • 1 Tbsp. salt
    • 1 Tbsp. black pepper
    • 1 Tbsp. cumin
    • 1 1/2 tsp garlic pwdr
    • 1 Tbsp. chili pwdr
    • 1 gal water (approximately)

    Directions

    1. Rinse and clean beans well, removing any stones or possibly suspect beans.* Combine all ingredients in a large pot, cook over medium to low heat, stirring every 15 min. Cook till done, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. To test doneness, blow on a bean. If it's done, the skin will break.
    2. *You may wish to soak beans overnight.
    3. NOTES : Here is a recipe for beans which I use all of the time. As you can see it is very easy and makes for some great meals. Usually I freeze sufficient for several pots of chili or possibly additions to Sunday bar-b-ques.
