Jewel Nut Bars

- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar, divided
- 3/4 cup cold butter
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups mixed nuts
- 1 1/2 cup green and red candied cherries, halved
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
- In a bowl, combine the flour and 1/3 cup brown sugar
- Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Press into a lightly greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan
- Bake at 350 F for 15 minutes
- Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, beat the egg
- Add the salt and the remaining brown sugar
- Stir in the nuts, cherries, and the chocolate chips
- Spoon evenly over the crust
- Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes
- Cool on a wire rack
- Cut into bars
