    Directions

These are two of the best freezer hacks for preserving avocados. How many times have you purchased avocados only to have them ripen too quickly or turn dark inside before you were ready to use them? It's happened to me enough times that I knew I needed a better solution. I researched ways to preserve avocado. and I discovered these two helpful freezer hacks. Now I use these 2 great freezer hacks. I've discovered that the freezer is an avocados best friend.                                   Hack Number 1- whole and unpeeled!!!!Freeze the entire avocado unpeeled! Yes, the entire unpeeled avocado. Doesn't get easier than this. Buy as many avocados as you want. Watch them until they just begin to ripen. When they are just turning ripe, pop the avocados into the freezer- unpeeled and whole. When you want to use the avocado, simply remove from the freezer, allow to sit on the counter for 1/2 hour, and then peel and use. It will be just like a fresh avocado.                              Hack Number 2- mashed and seasonedPurchase 4 avocados. Peel them and remove pit. Mash the avocado with 1/4 cup or more to taste of lemon juice and a 1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic powder. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Using a melon baller or 2 tablespoons to make mounds of avocado, add to cookie sheet and freeze. When completely frozen (6-8 hours), remove from cookie sheet and place into plastic baggies to use individually as needed. The balls/mounds will defrost in 20- 30 minutes minutes. Use it to add to a sandwich, salad, or add to a green smoothie) . It will taste fresh and delicious. Note: You can add it to a green smoothie, frozen.     How to know when an avocado is ripe? There is an easy way to know when an avocado is ripe. The avocado has a small little stem area where it was connected to the tree. If you try to snap this little cap off of the avocado and it doesn't give easily, the avocado probably is not ripe. If you snap it off and it comes off easily and the area under it is green, the avocado is probably ripe. However, if you snap it off and the area  under it is brown, the avocado is probably overly ripe and brown inside. Avocados are HealthyAvocados are a great source of healthy mono-saturated fat which is a very important part of a healthy diet. In addition, avocados are higher in potassium than bananas, contain a significant amount of healthy fiber, vitamins, minerals, and are good for maintaining healthy eyes. I like to include some healthy fat from an avocado a few times a week in my diet, but I don't like to eat too much at one sitting.  This simple hack really works for me. Notes :I've only tried these hacks with Haas type avocado
