Home Style Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 can no-salt-added crushed tomatoes - (28 ounce)
- 3 can tomato paste - (6 ounce ea)
- 3/4 lb plum tomatoes minced
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 3/4 c. dry red wine (or possibly 98% fat-free no-salt-added canned beef broth)
- 1/2 c. minced onion
- 2 lrg garlic cloves chopped
- 1/2 Tbsp. crushed dry oregano
- 2 lrg bay leaves
- 1/2 tsp freshly-grnd black pepper Salt (optional), to taste
Directions
- To make the sauce: In a large heavy pot, combine the sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to a slow simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 min.
- Throw away bay leaves. Divide sauce in half. Use each half as directed in recipes or possibly transfer into 2-c. plastic freezer containers. Label and freeze till hard.
- This recipe yields 2 qts.
