I first had this at a sandwich shop in Huntington Beach, CA, about 25 years ago. It quickly became a family favorite. The Hawaiian bread is important to the blend of flavors. Don't substitute. It is refreshing on a hot day, or for a picnic. It is really easy to make.

    Ingredients

    • 1 loaf Kings Hawaiian bread
    • 1 pineapple (or a can of pineapple slices)
    • 4-6 slices of ham (packaged deli ham will do in a pinch)
    • 8 oz cream cheese

    Directions

    1. Stand bread on end and slice in half.
    2. Spread cream cheese on one side (or both sides).
    3. Slice the pineapple, and add slices to cover bottom side completely.
    4. Add sliced ham over pineapple.
    5. Slap on the top. cut in 8 pieces (like a pie).
    6. Obviously, sliced ham tastes better than packaged deli ham, but the deli ham works fine.
    7. Canned pineapple is certainly easer, with hardly a difference in taste.
