This is an easy recipe and fantastic substitute for steak. I've added these in strips to fajitas, in bite-sized chunks to lasagna and eaten them instead of steak when I want to have a vegetarian day.

    Ingredients

    • Butter
    • Garlic Powder
    • 2-3 Large Portabello Mushrooms

    Directions

    1. Using a spoon, scrape the gills (the black "wavy" things inside the mushroom cap) from the mushrooms.
    2. Melt a half stick of butter and add 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder (more or less, based on your taste...I love garlic).
    3. Baste the mushroom caps completely with the melted butter mix.
    4. Grill whole mushroom caps until tender (time listed is approximate--depends on grill). They will be charred, softened and moist. These taste a lot like a grilled steak, so I love them in my fajitas.
