Grilled Avocado and Sauteed Mushroom Burger
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 avocado
- 1 lb. mushrooms, washed and sliced
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup red wine (not the grocery store cooking wine!!)
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1/4 cup cold water
- Swiss cheese, sliced
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp seasoned salt
- 1 tsp coarsely ground pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 package hamburger rolls
Directions
- Combine the beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Form into patties and refrigerate.
- In a saute pan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the mushrooms and saute for about 2-3 minutes, stirring. Add the red wine, bring to a slight boil and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring frequently, about 15-20 minutes.
- Combine the flour and water; add to the mushrooms. Stir until thickened, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and cover.
- Prepare your grill.
- Cut the avocado lengthwise down the middle, peel the halves and remove the pit.
- Once the grill is ready, add the burgers. When they have just a couple of minutes left, add the avocado halves cut side down on the grill, they only take about 1 or 2 minutes so watch them carefully. Cut them into fairly thin slices.
- To assemble, spoon some of the mushrooms on top of the burger, the swiss cheese, then avocado.
