  • Grandmother's Chocolate Sundae Pies

    Ingredients

    • 1 c. evaporated lowfat milk
    • 1/2 c. water
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 3 egg yolks
    • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tbsp. gelatin
    • 3 tbsp. cool water
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    • 3 egg whites, beaten stiff
    • 1 c. sweetened whipped cream
    • 1/4 c. grated chocolate or possibly 2 tbsp. sweet cocoa
    • 2 baked pie shells

    Directions

    1. Heat lowfat milk and water in double boiler with nutmeg. Beat egg yolks with sugar and salt till light. Pour the warm lowfat milk over the egg mix, return to double boiler and cook to consistency of thick cream. Remove from heat. Add in gelatin that has been soaking 5 min in the 3 Tbsp. water. Add in vanilla and cold. When cold and ready to set, mix in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into baked pie shells. Chill. Cover with whipped cream. Sprinkle on chocolate or possibly cocoa.
