French Onion Soup (in the Crockpot)
So easy, yet so amazingly delicious. Throw everything into the crockpot and come home to a hearty soup. This is an easy recipe to double and that is highly recommended if you love French Onion Soup Ingredients
- 2 cans of beef broth
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 2 yellow onions sliced
- 1/2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/4 Cup cooking sherry (or dry white wine - optional)
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt or to taste
- 4 slices French bread (or bread of your choice)
- Gruyere or Swiss cheese
Directions
- Heat your crockpot to high and add butter to start melting
- Add sliced onions separated to make rings then cover them in the butter
- Add the beef broth, sugar, salt, and sherry
- Cook high for 6-8 hours or low for 10-12 - Until onions are translucent
- preheat oven to the broiling option
- Toast bread that you are using. .
- Slice or grate cheese
- Cover the toast with cheese then float the bread and cheese on the top of the soup
- Remove stoneware from crockpot and place the UNCOVERED stoneware into the oven
- Broil for a minute or two until the cheese is slightly browned and melted
