Red wine taralli are slightly sweet, made with a full-bodied red wine such as Cabernet, Merlot, Barolo, Zinfandel, and Primativo etc.

    Ingredients

    • 5 cups flour
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1 cup red wine, full bodied
    • 1 cup oil
    • EGG WASH
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tablespoons water

    Directions

    1. DOUGH
    2. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl, add the oil and wine and knead until the dough is smooth.
    3. ASSEMBLY
    4. Roll them into 6” x 1/2" thick pieces. Shape them into loops and press the ends together with your thumb. Brush them with the egg wash.
    5. BAKE
    6. Bake at 350ºF for about 20 minutes. Don’t let them brown too much; check the bottom; if they are slightly brown they are done.
    7. Note: These cookies are usually dunked in red wine. They can be stored in a metal container for more then 2 weeks. They can also be frozen.

I love simple recipes. maybe because that's the food I grew up with. But I always feel it is harder to keep it simple and make it taste good, than to just through a little of this and a little of that and the other, until you get something. When you keep it simple the ratios have to be just perfect. There's talent in that!
