Chocolate Chip-Oatmeal Cookies

- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups quick-cooking oats
- 1 (12 oz.) pkg semisweet chocolate pieces
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Set aside.
- Cream together the shortening, brown sugar, and sugar in the bowl until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer at medium speed.
- Add the eggs, one at a time
- Beat well after each addition.
- Blend in the vanilla
- Gradually stir in the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture
- Blend well
- Stir in the oats, chocolate pieces, and the walnuts
- Drop the mixture by teaspoonfuls, about 2 inches apart, onto greased baking sheets
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown
- Remove from the baking sheets
- Cool on wire racks
