    Ingredients

    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 cup shortening
    • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
    • 1 (12 oz.) pkg semisweet chocolate pieces
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

    Directions

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 F
    2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    3. Set aside.
    4. Cream together the shortening, brown sugar, and sugar in the bowl until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer at medium speed.
    5. Add the eggs, one at a time
    6. Beat well after each addition.
    7. Blend in the vanilla
    8. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture
    9. Blend well
    10. Stir in the oats, chocolate pieces, and the walnuts
    11. Drop the mixture by teaspoonfuls, about 2 inches apart, onto greased baking sheets
    12. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown
    13. Remove from the baking sheets
    14. Cool on wire racks
