  • Chocolate-Caramel Crunch Bars

    Ingredients

    • 1 pkg. (14 ounces) caramels (about 48)
    • 1/3 cup water
    • 2 cups flour
    • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 cup butter, melted
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1 pkg. (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

    Directions

    1. Heat the caramels and the water over low heat
    2. Stir frequently until the caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth
    3. Heat the oven to 350 F
    4. Mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, butter, baking soda, and the salt
    5. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture for the topping
    6. Press the remaining mixture into an ungreased 13 x 9 inch
    7. Bake for 10 minutes
    8. Sprinkle the baked layer with the chocolate chips
    9. Drizzle with the caramel mixture
    10. Sprinkle with the reserved crumbly mixture.
    11. Bake until light brown, about 15 minutes
    12. Cool slightly
    13. Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 inch in size.
