Chocolate-Caramel Crunch Bars

- 1 pkg. (14 ounces) caramels (about 48)
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups quick-cooking oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 pkg. (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Heat the caramels and the water over low heat
- Stir frequently until the caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth
- Heat the oven to 350 F
- Mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, butter, baking soda, and the salt
- Reserve 1 cup of the mixture for the topping
- Press the remaining mixture into an ungreased 13 x 9 inch
- Bake for 10 minutes
- Sprinkle the baked layer with the chocolate chips
- Drizzle with the caramel mixture
- Sprinkle with the reserved crumbly mixture.
- Bake until light brown, about 15 minutes
- Cool slightly
- Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 inch in size.
