  • Cheese Stuffed Burgers

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/4 lb extra lean beef, grnd
    • 1 x egg beaten lightly
    • 1 sm yellow onion finely minced
    • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
    • 1/2 tsp salt and pepper
    • 4 ounce nonfat cheese

    Directions

    1. * (Monterey jack, cheddar, warm pepper, your choice)
    2. In large bowl, combine the beef, egg, onion and Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Divide the meat into 8 equal portions and form each portion into a patty 3/8" thick and 4 inches in diameter. Divide the cheese into 4 equal portions and form each into a flat round cake about the size of a silver dollar. Place a cheese patty in the center of each of 4 meat patties. Top with a second meat patty and seal the edges. At this point the stuffed burgers can be stored. Arrange them in a single layer on a wax-paper-lined tray, cover with plastic wrap or possibly foil. Chill overnight. Freeze, individually wrapped and labeled in heavy duty aluminum foil or possibly plastic wrap, for 1 month. Broil the burgers 3 inches from the heat, allowing 5 min on each side for rare, 6 min for medium and 7 minutes for well done.

    4. heat 1 tbsp. oil in skillet. Cook frzn burgers for 5 min on each side till brown. Reduce the heat to moderately low, cover and cook for 15-20 min, depending on your desired doneness, turning them once.
