I searched for the perfect from scratch recipe; Like most of my recipes I had to compromise by taking several online recipes to make my own version. This actually came out very tasty. I reduced the water amount as it came out kind of soupy which isn't a bad thing.

    Ingredients

    • 3-4 lean steak 1/4” inch cut into small bite size pieces
    • ¼ cup fresh mushrooms chopped/stems removed
    • 1 clove of garlic minced
    • 1 medium onion cut in half then cut into strips
    • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp thyme
    • 1 tbsp. parsley fresh or dried
    • ½ tsp black pepper
    • 1 tbsp. Basil
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 4 sm buillion cubes (beef or chicken)
    • 1 ½ cups sour cream
    • ¼ cup flour
    • 3 tbsp. butter
    • 2 tbsp. olive or canola oil
    • 2 cups egg noodles or rice

    Directions

    1. In a medium to large skillet heat oil and melt butter.
    2. Add onions, garlic, mushrooms
    3. Sauté until tender/onions translucent; stir often
    4. In a small bowl mix sour cream and all but 1 tbsp. flour; set aside
    5. Tenderize steak
    6. Cut steak into strips then into bite size pieces; place in a bowl
    7. Add Worcestershire sauce and 1 tbsp. flour; allow to sit for about 5-10 minutes
    8. Then add steak to skillet with the onions, mushrooms and garlic
    9. Sauté until steak is cooked through
    10. In a small bowl combine water and buillion cubes; allow the cubes to dissolve
    11. In another pot cook Noodles or rice according to package directions.
    12. When steak is cooked through add water mixture; allow time for this to almost boil
    13. Add sour cream mixture and reduce heat
    14. Cook for about 5-10 minutes allowing time for the sauce to thicken.
    15. Serve over noodles or rice.
