This sauce is adapted from Cookshack's Spicy Barbeque Sauce. Theirs uses a mix they sell. I have used a basic rub instead as a base which is linked below. This is a good all purpose BBQ sauce. It can be used as a starting point for other added ingredients to key in on various flavors. It is easy and quick to make. This recipe makes about 4 cups. It freezes well in plastic containers. I usually make to 2 quarts at a time and freeze in containers for use later.

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 Tb basic BBQ rub. Link for the recipe is shown below.
    • 2 cup catsup. I use Heinz
    • 5 Tb tomato sauce
    • 3 Tb cider vinegar
    • 5 Tb molasses, unsulphured
    • 5 Tb brwon sugar
    • 3 Tb Worcestershire sauce
    • 5 tsp liquid smoke
    • 3 tsp Louisiana hot sauce
    • 1 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
    • 3/4 cup water

    Directions

    1. Mix all ingredients in a large sauce pan. Heat to 190^ and simmer for 15 minutes to blend flavors. Stir occasionally during cooking. Cool and store in airtight containers in the freezer or use an old large catsup bottle to store in the refrigerator.
