    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup shredded coconut
    • 1 cup fine semolina
    • 1 cup sugar
    • ½ cup milk (can use heavy cream or evaporated milk for richer basbousa)
    • 2 medium eggs
    • 2½ tablespoons milk powder
    • ¼ cup vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • Whole Almonds for garnish

    Directions

    I had different versions of this Arabian delight, some were too sweet other were too hard. The version I’m sharing with you today is quick to make and require no syrup.

    I’d like to share an information with you here, if you’re not an Arab then you should know that beautiful woman in Arab countries are referred to as Basbousa,

    to express how beautiful and sweet she looks.To me it makes so much sense, if you have Basbousa once, you’d want to have it again and again.

    When baking this beauty, your kitchen will smell amazing, you’ll get everyone excited, I guarantee that.

    Talking about the smell here, don’t you just hate it when everything in your fridge smell like onion or garlic, I mean even the dessert?

    Basbousa

    Recipe type: Dessert

    Cuisine: Arabic

    Serves: 8

    Preheat the oven to 180C – 356F.

    In a bowl add all the ingredients and whisk until well combined.

    Pour the mixture in a non-stick or greased pan. Garnish with almond.

    Bake for 25 minutes.

    Let it cool and enjoy with hot cup of coffee.
