Another Chili Recipe
Many Texans turn up their noses at putting beans in chili, but I happen to like beans. Secret ingredient: Lipton's dry soup mix. Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, cooked and drained.
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 fat cloves garlic, minced
- 1 envelope Lipton's Beefy Onion Soup MIx
- 15 oz. can tomato sauce
- 1/2 - 1 T chile powder
- 1 tsp. cumin
- 1 tsp. chopped cilantro
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 2 T cornmeal or 1 T cornstarch with a little cold water (thickener),turn down to medium low and simmer 30 minutes.
- optional: can of pinto or red kidney beans, drained
Directions
- Cook the ground beef and drain it well.
- Salute the onions in a tsp oil until almost golden, then add garlic (use a medium high heat).
- Throw everything into a pot (except the thickener), bring to a boil. If chili is too thin for your taste, add the thickener and cook 10 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and cool.
- Refrigerate a day or two before heating and serving.
