    Stuffed Pepperoni Pizza Melt, Low in Calories, Big on Taste

    If you’re watching your weight or trying to be healthy chances are pepperoni pizza is not on your diet, right? Great news though…We’re created a delicious and healthy melt using very low fat and calorie turkey pepperoni, reduced-fat cheese and a high fiber sandwich thin. The skinny on our melt is 215 calories, 8 grams of fat and 6 Weight Watchers POINTS PLUS. We’re comparing it to a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza pepperoni which has a shocking 640 calories ad 29 grams of fat! There’s lots of pizzazz in our yummy melt.

    Ingredients

    • 1 Oroweat Sandwich Thin, see shopping tip
    • 1 teaspoon reduced-fat butter or Smart Balance Light
    • 1½ tablespoons pizza sauce or marinara sauce
    • 7 slices Hormel’s 70% less fat turkey pepperoni, see shopping tip
    • 1 slice light provolone cheese or light mozzarella

    Directions

    1. 1. Preheat Panini maker or George Foreman grill.
    2. 2. Spread the outside of the sandwich thin, both top and bottom, with ½ teaspoon of butter on each. Split open and spread the inside of the bottom slice with pizza sauce. On top of sauce, place pepperoni slices and top with 1 slice of cheese. Place remaining top piece of sandwich thin, butter side out.
    3. 3. Place in Panini maker or George Foreman grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until melted and golden brown. Remove with a spatula as the cheese oozes out a bit while cooking. We love it that way!
    4. 4. Serve with a fork and knife.

          Oroweat Sandwich Thins can be found in most large supermarkets. One sandwich thin has 100 calories, 1g fat, and 5g fiber. They come in several flavors with the same nutrition facts. Use your favorite.

          We used Hormel’s 70% reduced-fat turkey pepperoni. You’ll find it in the luncheon meat section of most supermarkets. It’s so low in calories and fat compared to regular pepperoni. One serving (17 slices) has 70 calories and 4 grams of fat. If you can’t find it, substitute with reduced-fat salami.
