Steamed Cabbage Rolls
This is my version of steamed cabbage rolls. I wanted the filling to mimic a spicy steamed dumpling filling. You could use this filling in dumpling wrappers as well and I think it would be very good but more calories. Ingredients
- 8 napa cabbage leaves
- 8 green onion stems, bulbs removed
- 1/2 lb ground turkey breast (could use chicken or pork)
- 5 large shrimp, chopped
- 1/8 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tablespoon onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp green onions, chopped
- 1/8 tsp thai chili flake (more to taste)
- 1/8 teaspoon salt dash black pepper
Directions
- First blanch the cabbage leaves and green onions in boiling water until they're pliable, about 10 to 20 seconds. I used the water in the pot that I was putting my bamboo steamer on.
- Prepare the stuffing ingredients by mixing the ground meat, shrimp, onion, chili flake, salt, pepper. Then stir in the green onions.
- Stuff the cabbage by placing 1/8th of the stuffing mixture onto each of the cabbage leaves, tucking in the sides, and rolling it. Then tie up each roll with the green onion.
- Place the cabbage rolls into a steamer. Cover the steamer and steam for 25 minutes.
