I don't know about you, but I have missed eating subs and hoagies on soft tender buns! The store bought variety is anything but that! This recipe makes perfectly soft tender buns every time. I used the same recipe I used for my hamburger and hot dog buns. I am still amazed at how delicious this recipe is! They are so easy to throw together too!

    Ingredients

    • 2-3/4 cups of Bread Flour Mix (link below)
    • 2 teaspoons xanthan gum
    • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1-1/4 cups warm water
    • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
    • 2 tablespoons light olive oil
    • 1 egg (room temp)
    • 1 teaspoons vinegar or 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

    Directions

    1. Preheat your oven to 375F.
    2. Combine all of the dry ingredients (except yeast) in the bowl of your stand mixer and mix briefly. Stir together the warm water and yeast until it dissolves. Whisk in the egg, oil, honey and vinegar (if using).
    3. With the mixer running on low speed, slowly pour in the wet ingredients and mix until well blended.
    4. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl and turn the mixer up to medium speed and run for 3-4 minutes.
    5. Lightly flour your work surface with all-purpose flour. Place the dough on the work surface and lightly flour the surface, just a dusting will do.
    6. Gently press the dough into a rectangle about 7x4.
    7. Lightly moisten the surface of the dough with water.
    8. Roll up the dough into a cylinder. Turn it over so the seam side is down and gently pat it into a rectangle about 7x2 and 1 inch thick.
    9. Using a spatula gently lift the dough and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
    10. Continue with the remaining dough in the same manner. It makes five good sized hoagie rolls.
    11. Place the baking sheet in a warm place to rise for 20 minutes.
    12. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
    13. Gently pull the rolls apart and place on a wire rack to cool before slicing. Store any leftover rolls tightly wrapped in the freezer for later use.

Do you divide the dough into 5 pieces before rolling up? That is not noted
