  • Red Devil's Food Cake Betty Crocker

    Ingredients

    • 1 2/3 c. All-purpose flour
    • 1 c. Granulated sugar
    • 1/2 c. Packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 c. Shortening
    • 1 1/2 c. Buttermilk
    • 1 1/2 tsp Baking soda
    • 1 tsp Salt
    • 1 tsp Vanilla
    • 2 ounce Unsweetened chocolate
    • 2 x Large eggs
    • 1 x Rec. Creamy Vanilla Frosting
    • 3 c. Powdered sugar
    • 1/3 c. Margarine/butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
    • 2 Tbsp. Lowfat milk, about

    Directions

    1. Heat and cold the 2 ounces of chocolate. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. Grease and flour 2 round pans, 8 or possibly 9 x 1 1/2 inches. Beat all ingredients except Creamy Vanilla Frosting on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 min, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pans. Bake 30 to 35 min or possibly till wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cold 10 min; remove from pans. Cold completely. Fill layers and frost cake with Creamy Vanilla Frosting. Creamy Vanilla Frosting: Mix powdered sugar and margarine.
    3. Stir in vanilla and lowfat milk till smooth and of spreading consistency.
