It sounds terrible, but it is sooo good! My daddy loved this cake. It was a toss up between this cake and a carrot cake at Father's Day and 9 times out of 10, this one won out. This cake stays moist for days ya'll and the kids will love it too - just don't tell them what's in it. I hope ya'll enjoy making it for your family as I did for my daddy.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup oil
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1 tsp allspice
    • 1 tsp nutmeg
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 1 cup cooked prunes
    • 3 eggs
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp soda
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 cup buttermilk

    Directions

    1. Mix oil, sugar & eggs - beat well. Add flour, spices and soda. Add buttermilk & vanilla. Add prunes.
    2. Bake at 350* for 35 minutes - do toothpick test. May need another 5 minutes.
    3. Icing
    4. 1 box powder sugar
    5. 1 stick soften butter
    6. 1/4 cup prune juice
    7. Ice cake when completely cool.

Sorry to be such a dolt, but when you say "cooked prunes" do you mean to stew them first and then reserve the juice for the frosting?

I'm going to try this one too. I love prunes! Won't tell the kids, though.
