    Patal(means watery) bhajji is a speciality of Honavar, Kumta and nearby places (Karnataka). It has the simple ingredients, highlighting the basic taste of potatoes .

    Ingredients

    • Potatoes – 2 medium sized potatoes
    • Grated coconut – 2 tablespoons
    • Green chillies – 4
    • A sprig of curry leaves
    • Mustard – 1 teaspoon
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil for tempering

    Directions

    1. 1)Boil and peel the potatoes and set aside
    2. .
    3. 2)Mash the potatoes and add the grated coconut, salt and water.
    4. 3)In a kadai, heat some oil and add the mustard. Once the mustard stops sputtering, add the green chillies and curry leaves and finally add the potato/coconut mixture.
    5. 4)Boil well and simmer for a few minutes.
