Pam Saderup's Norwegian Kringler
Another recipe from one of my dear military friends, this time its Pam Saderup. It has become a family favorite of ours over the years as well. Ingredients
- Base:
- 1 c flour
- 1/2 c butter
- 2T water
- Flavored layer:
- 1c water
- 1/2 butter
- 1 c flour
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 t almond extract
- Frosting:
- 1 c powdered sugar
- 1T milk
- 1T butter
- 1/2 t almond extract
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375F
- For Base:
- Mix flour, butter and water as you would a pie crust.
- Pat onto an un-greased cookie sheet in two long narrow strips aprox 3 inches wide each.
- For "Filling":
- In medium saucepan bring water & butter to boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in flour. Stir until smooth.
- Beat in eggs- one at a time until smooth.
- Stir in almond extract.
- Spread lightly over base.
- Bake at 375F for aprox 45 minutes.
- For Frosting:
- Mix together sugar, milk, butter and almond extract.
- When cool, ice with the simple almond frosting.
