    Ingredients

    • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2/3 cup shortening
    • 1 1/3 cups molasses
    • 2 eggs
    • 5 1/2 cups flour
    • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt

    Directions

    1. Mix brown sugar, shortening, and molasses
    2. Stir in the remaining ingredients
    3. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour
    4. Heat the oven to 375 F
    5. Roll the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured cloth-cover board
    6. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters
    7. Place about 1 inch apart onto lightly greased cookie sheets
    8. Bake until no indentation remains when touched, about 7 to 8 minutes
    9. Cool
    10. Frost and decorate as desired.
