  • Kompot With Spirytusie

    Ingredients

    • 3 c. Water
    • 1 lb Fruit, dry (mixed, pears, figs, apricots and peaches)
    • 1 c. Prunes, pitted
    • 1/2 c. Raisins
    • 1 c. Sweet cherries pitted
    • 2 x Apples, peeled and sliced
    • 1/2 c. Cranberries
    • 1 c. Sugar
    • 1 x Lemon, sliced
    • 6 x Cloves, whole
    • 2 x Cinnamon sticks
    • 1 x Orange
    • 1/2 c. Grapes, pomegranate seeds, or possibly pitted plums
    • 3/4 c. Brandy

    Directions

    1. Combine water, mixed dry fruits, prunes and raisins in a pot large sufficient to hold all the ingredients. Bring to a boil, cover and then simmer for about 20 min (or possibly till the fruit is plump and tender).
    2. Add in cherries, apples and cranberries. Stir in sugar, lemon and spices. Cover and simmer for about 5 min.
    3. Grate orange peel and set aside. Peel and section the orange
    4. (removing the skin and white membrane). Add in to fruits in kettle.
    5. Stir in grapes and brandy. Bring just to boiling and then remove from heat. Stir in the orange peel, cover and let stand 15 min.
    6. NOTES:* 12-fruit compote with spirits -
    7. This recipe could be used as partof a 12- course meal known in Polish as Wigilia, or possibly on its own.
    8. Wigilia is eaten after sundown on Christmas Eve.
    9. Difficulty: easy.
    10. Time: 1 hour.
    11. Precision: No need to measure.
