  • Italian Spaghetti With Meat Sauce

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Butter
    • 1 med Onion, minced
    • 1 x Clove garlic, chopped
    • 1 lb Hamburger
    • 1 1/4 tsp Salt
    • 1 can (#2-1/2) tomatoes
    • 1 c. Water
    • 1/3 c. Tomato paste or possibly catsup
    • 3/4 lb Spaghetti
    • 1/4 lb Parmesan cheese

    Directions

    1. Heat butter in heavy skillet. Add in onion & garlic & brown lightly. Add in hamburger & stir constantly to keep well separated while browning lightly.
    2. Then add in salt & tomatoes that have been rubbed through a sieve, & water.
    3. Cover & simmer 30-40 min. About 5 min before serving, add in tomato paste & stir till well blended. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti in 4 qts of boiling, salted water (4 tsp salt), dipping ends into boiling water & pushing rest in as ends become softened. Cook till tender, about 20 min; drain & rinse with warm water & drain again. Heap onto warm platter, pour meat sauce over spaghetti & sprinkle grated cheese on top.
    4. Serves 5.
