hungarian sponge cake
this is another cake from my grandma. it freezes well. Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 11/4 cups sugar
- 5 eggs separated
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 grated orange rind
- 1/2 grated lemon rind
- 2 teaspoon cocoa
Directions
- pre-heat oven to 325 degrees
- grease and flour a 10" bunt pan set aside
- beat egg yolks till lemon color and thick
- add 1/2 cup orange juice,lemon and orange rinds and 1/4 cup oil
- mix well
- slowly add 1 cup sugar and flour mix well
- set aside
- beat egg whites and 1/4 cup sugar beat till stiff and dry
- fold whites into yolk mixture
- set aside 1/4 cup of mixture,add cocoa and mix set aside
- pour batter into prepared bunt pan
- swirl in the cocoa mixture
- bake for 50-55 minuets till knife inserted comes out clean
- cool then remove from pan
