  • Hearty Hoagies

    Perfect for back-to-school lunches!

    Ingredients

    • 4 hoagie or hot dog buns split in half lengthwise
    • Mayonnaise (enough to spread on buns)
    • 4 slices cheese of your choice (American, cheddar, pepper jack, etc.)
    • 1 medium tomato, washed and sliced
    • 3/4 lb. luncheon meat such as ham, turkey or roast beef
    • 1 small head of lettuce
    • Mustard (if desired)

    Directions

    1. Spread each hoagie bun with mayonnaise.
    2. Place on each hoagie bun: 2 or 3 slices of meat, 1 slice cheese, 2 slices tomato, 1 piece lettuce.
    3. Spread mustard on ½ hoagie roll if desired.
    4. Wrap sandwich in plastic. Serve with pickles, chips, and a juice box.
    5. Hint: adjust amounts or omit the mayo and/or mustard to suit each family member. For younger children, you may want to send only ½ sandwich, cut into additional halves, or use smaller rolls for their sandwiches.
