  • Ham And Swiss In Puff Pastry

    Ingredients

    • 4 x puff pastry squares - (5" by 5")
    • 2 Tbsp. finely minced onion
    • 1 Tbsp. butter
    • 1 x egg beaten
    • 1 c. shredded Swiss cheese or possibly 3-cheese mix (Swiss, Monterey Jack and Cheddar)
    • 2/3 c. cooked ham coarsely minced
    • 1 Tbsp. snipped fresh parsley
    • 1 Tbsp. snipped fresh dillweed (or possibly 1 tspn dry dillweed)
    • 1 dsh garlic pwdr
    • 1 dsh freshly-grnd black pepper
    • 1 x egg yolk mixed with
    • 2 Tbsp. water for egg wash

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 400 to 425 degrees. If using frzn pastry puff, let pastry come to room temperature.
    2. In small saucepan, cook onion in butter until tender but not browned. For filling, in a medium mixing bowl combine egg, cheese, ham, parsley, dillweed, garlic pwdr, and pepper. Stir in onion mix; set aside.
    3. Place 2 to 3 Tbsp. of the filling just off center on each pastry square. Moisten edges of pastry with water; mix in half diagonally. Seal edges by pressing with finger or possibly tines of a fork.
    4. Place pastry on ungreased baking sheet. Coat with egg wash. Place in preheated oven and immediately drop temperature to 380 degrees and cook 20 to 25 min until nicely browned.
    5. This recipe yields 4 servings.
