  • Grandma's Spaghetti Sauce

    Ingredients

    • 1 lg. can whole tomatoes
    • 2 lg. tomato sauce
    • 1 lg. tomato paste
    • 1 sm. can mushrooms
    • Extra virgin olive oil
    • 1 lg. onion, minced
    • 2-3 stalks celery
    • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
    • 2 tbsp. sugar
    • Water to thin, if necessary
    • 1 teaspoon sweet basil
    • 1 teaspoon garlic pwdr
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon thyme, oregano flakes and rosemary
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Directions

    1. In large pan, saute/fry onion in extra virgin olive oil till tender, not brown. Add in celery, saute/fry till tender. Add in cut-up tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Add in spices, adjust to taste as necessary. Let cook 2-3 hrs on medium heat, stirring occasionally. Add in mushrooms before serving. Great for freezing for future meals.
