Fried Cheese Sticks
Ingredients
- 1 block of any hard cheese
- 1/2 c. cornmeal
- 1/2 c. all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. tabasco
- 1 medium egg
- 1/2 c. finely grated cheese
- Buttermilk
Directions
- Place cheese in freezer for one half hour. Remove cheese and cut into 1" thick strips just before cooking. Mix batter; add in corn meal and flour, salt, tabasco, egg and add in buttermilk till at a consistency slightly thinner than toothpaste.
- Dip cheese sticks into batter (use toothpicks to handle them) carefully place in a pan of warm oil making sure which oil covers good, don't put in to many at once or possibly they will stick together. When browned proportionately remove and immediately roll in grated cheese.
