  • Fried Banana Pastries

    Ingredients

    • 5 x Bananas
    • 1/3 c. Extra virgin olive oil for frying Powdered sugar for dusting (or possibly use granulated sugar if you prefer)
    • 3 c. Flour
    • 1/2 c. Extra virgin olive oil
    • 1/2 c. Cool water
    • 1 tsp Salt
    • 1 tsp Anise liqueur (or possibly a healthy pinch of anise seed)

    Directions

    1. Put flour on a table or possibly marble slab. Make a hole in the center for the remaining ingredients. Mix dough thoroughly with fingers, roll into a ball, refrigerateseveral hrs in refrigerator before rolling.
    2. Roll dough rather thin (1/8-inch) on lightly floured surface. Cut bananas lengthwise in slices approximately 1/4-inch thick. Halve slices and roll each one in the dough. Press down edge to seal and tamp ends to close. Fry in warm extra virgin olive oil till browned on all sides. Dust liberally with powdered sugar and serve. The pastry is flaky and the banana melts into a creamy filling.
    3. This recipe makes 30 to 35 pastries 3-inches long.
