I have tried so many biscuit recipes, and none seem to be flaky and turn out like hockey pucks . So, I made up my own recipe and they turned out great! The secret is the fresh baking powder and butter, not shortening or margarine.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups flour
    • 3 teaspoons fresh baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 5 to 6 tablespoons softened butter,not melted
    • 3/4 cup whole or 2% milk

    Directions

    1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
    2. Cut in softened butter until it resembles crumbs
    3. Add the milk all at once, and blend only until thoroughly combined.
    4. Turn out on a floured board, and roll out about 1/2 inch thickness
    5. Cut with a three inch biscuit cutter
    6. Arrange on an ungreased cookie sheet
    7. Bake in preheated oven of 450 degrees for exactly 12 minutes.
    8. Makes around 7 large biscuits.
    9. Good for chicken and biscuit or to serve with hearty soups, etc.
    10. If add sugar, can use for strawberry shortcake
